Bush, who won 19% of the Jewish vote in 2000, won between 22-25% of it this time, according to various estimates. Although he certainly made inroads in Orthodox circles, not much movement overall.
The questions now are not, why did that happen and were the Jews ingrates (a suggestion I take strong exception to -- politics has nothing to do with gratitude), but will Bush and the Republicans sit up and take notice? Will their support for Israel change now that they realize that, contrary to conventional wisdom, there aren't many votes in it?
