Repercussion #2 - PETA complains to USDA about the OU

The PETA website shows that on December 1, 2004, they submitted a complaint to USDA about the OU (technically an amendment to their earlier complaint about AgriProcessors), on the basis that AgriProcessors claimed in a statement that in procedures relating to shechita they follow the direction of their Rabbinical supervisors:
"Agriprocessors does not control anything that happens in the kosher ritual processes. We adhere strictly to the instructions given to us by the rabbinic authorities and will continue to do so,” the statement said.
“As we always have, we will also continue to follow the strict guidelines set out by both federal and Jewish law for the humane treatment of animals during the slaughter process.”
