British election results -- first exit polls

Both the BBC and ITV have forecast a Labour majority of 66 seats -- a drop of about 100 seats and far from a landslide. The Tories to gain 40+ seats (a swing of just 2%) and the Lib Dems, who were supposed to be the big winners tonight, just 2 seats gain. Exit polls of course have been wrong in the past -- stay tuned.

UPDATE: Commentators' are calling these initial results, if they are correct, an 'everyone loses' election. Labour loses big time, the Tories don't gain as much as they needed, and the Lib Dems miss their big opportunity to improve their position. On the other hand, there are also reports that both the Tories and the Lib Dems are excited and expect to do better than the exit polls are indicating. First real results in soon, with the first result from a seat the Tories must win to do well tonight in at midnight UK time -- I won't be waiting up....
